3. The biggest problem I see lately is a huge increase in the amount of Malware and Spyware clogging up systems. These evil programs come from the Internet that everyone now gets during normal internet surfing. ALWAYS say “NO” to any download unless you know exactly what the program does. Most of these programs reroute your browser to their sites with the aim of trying to sell you stuff. Stay away from download accelerators, search bars, etc. I also suggest using a good Antispyware program to block this junk at the source. You will be amazed at the amount of spy ware you may have on your computer. Update and run these programs every other week or more if you surf a lot.
4. Check your antivirus program week as well; making certain it is updating the virus definitions. Also monitor you subscription expiration date. Remember that an antivirus program may come on your new computer, but are useless unless you have activated and updated it, it’s next to worthless. You must also renew your subscription every year without any gap in coverage. I do NOT recommend Norton or McAfee antivirus, particularly the Internet Security versions. I tested the top 5 programs in my shop for a couple of months before choosing Norman Antivirus as my top choice. I buy the program directly from the company and offer it to my customers for $40.00 per year. They also have a full suite available as of 2008. Although you may not have heard of Norman, Microsoft uses it in-house and I think it’s just incredible.
5. Look on the top of the Programs menu and click on the Windows Update. This will take you to Microsoft's update page. Click "Scan for Updates” and select all the custom updates and let them download and update your Windows Program. I would also download any driver updates and many of the non-critical updates as well. You can hit cancel after each update is done as you do not need to reboot until all the updates have completed.
Good luck and Happy Computing
